Losing Mum and Dad to Covid
The year 2020 will forever be etched in my memory as the year I lost both my parents to Covid-19.
My mother, a vibrant and loving woman, was the first to fall ill. I watched helplessly as she struggled to breathe, her health deteriorating rapidly despite the best efforts of medical professionals.
Just when we thought she was getting better, my father also tested positive for the virus. His case was even more severe, and he was soon fighting for his life in the intensive care unit.
The days spent waiting by their bedside, praying for a miracle, were some of the longest and most agonizing of my life. Eventually, the inevitable news came – first my mother, and then my father, had succumbed to the vicious virus.
The grief and sense of loss were overwhelming. Not being able to properly say goodbye, to hold their hands one last time, haunts me to this day.
But amidst the sorrow, there is also gratitude. Gratitude for the love and memories shared, for the lessons learned and the strength gained in the face of such tragedy.
As I navigate this new reality without my parents, I hold onto the cherished moments we had together and find solace in knowing they are at peace.
Covid-19 has changed my life in ways I never could have imagined, but through it all, the love and memories of Mum and Dad continue to guide me forward.
